Fire Escape Policy
Objective
- The primary objective of this policy is to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and visitors at NIX Academy in the event of a fire or any other emergency requiring building evacuation.
- Fire drills will be conducted at least twice a year to familiarize everyone with evacuation procedures.
- Clearly marked evacuation routes and exits should be established and well-maintained.
- Evacuation maps will be displayed prominently in all classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and common areas.
- Exits must be kept clear of obstructions at all times.
- On hearing the fire alarm, all occupants must leave the building immediately through the nearest safe exit, following the marked evacuation routes.
- Teachers are responsible for ensuring that all students in their charge evacuate promptly and safely.
- A designated meeting point outside the building should be established where all evacuees will assemble for a headcount.
- Appoint trained fire marshals among the staff. Their responsibilities include assisting in evacuation, ensuring no one is left behind, and liaising with the fire brigade upon their arrival.
- Special provisions should be made for the evacuation of younger children and any individuals with mobility issues or other special needs.
- Maintain an up-to-date list of all individuals present in the building.
- Establish a communication protocol to inform parents or guardians in the event of an emergency.
- No one should re-enter the building until it has been declared safe by the fire brigade or other authorized personnel.
- A review of the evacuation process should be conducted to identify and rectify any issues.
- This policy should be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect any changes in the building layout, staff, or other relevant factors.
- Include emergency contact numbers and addresses of local emergency services.
- Ensure that all staff and students are aware of this policy.
- Incorporate the policy into the academy’s handbook and website.
- Regularly remind students and staff of the policy and procedures during meetings or assemblies.
